The conversations you have every morning over coffee are quietly building the life you'll be living five years from now.
Sit with that for a second. โ
Most people spend their breaks talking about the weather, venting about that one coworker, or rehashing the same frustrations they had last Tuesday. And look, I get it. Letting it out feels good sometimes.
What I noticed when I really listened
When I started paying attention to what I actually talked about with the people closest to me, I realized something uncomfortable.
Almost none of it was about where I wanted to go. It was all about what was going wrong. The complaints, the stress, the "can you believe this happened" stories on repeat.
And those conversations aren't harmless small talk. They're training your brain to stay locked on problems instead of possibilities.
The small change I made
Instead of "how was your day" followed by a list of everything that went sideways, I started asking different questions.
"What's something you're excited about right now?"
"What's a goal you haven't told anyone about yet?"
"If nothing was in the way, what would you do next year?"
Here's what happened. The conversations got deeper and more energizing. People started leaning in instead of checking out, because people light up when you ask them about their dreams. Including you.
You fall to the level of your daily conversations
Here's the part most people miss. You don't rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your daily conversations.
If every conversation is about problems, your mind stays in problem mode. It gets comfortable there, and it starts looking for MORE problems just to have something to talk about.
But if you start weaving in goals, dreams and what's actually possible, your mind shifts and starts scanning for solutions instead. Not because you're pretending everything is perfect, but because you're giving your future the same airtime you've been giving your frustrations.
Mine? Key West. Brian ๐ and I want to live there once our youngest moves out, and it's a lot more fun to talk about than the weather. ๐
Try it this week
Next time you're catching up with someone, skip the weather and skip the work drama. Ask them what they're dreaming about, and then actually listen. You might be surprised what opens up. ๐
And if you'd like your mornings to start pointed at your goals too, take a look at my Magical Morning Formula.
Thanks for reading, and whatever you do, always go for your dreams!
